Wish I could've made the conference myself -- too busy out their reporting, LOL. Your statement "Journalism is no longer an elitist pursuit..." threw me though, I don't know one working, professional journalist who would consider their career or calling to be elitist in any way. Being trained and/or apprenticed is not elitist. Some skill sets take years of time investment to develop, whether you are a natural or not. I see many great (and potentially great) writers doing citizen-journo blogs, but frankly many need good editors. They are riddled with faulty logic, lack the interview instincts to get the full answers from subjects, or are missing pieces of vital information to make the story complete. A good editor can be a fantastic mentor and devil's advocate, Their honest feedback can make your writing really strong and take you to the next level. What we need in the new media is a layer of editing that I'm afraid many don't even realize they are lacking. Great stuff!
