I have often felt alone, in the minority among friends and colleagues, wondering if I’m crazy, if my ideas make any sense, or if there’s anyone out there who feels the same way that I do. Cue the Internet. It’s a safe space where I can test my ideas on an audience. I can see how people respond online.

If some of life is really boredom and sameness and pain that you want to escape, and you use social media to escape it, that says more about your personality than about social media. So, you like using Twitter more than you like binge eating. Other people like drinking more than smoking. It’s really a personal choice.

Snark (Combination of “snide” and “remark”. Sarcastic comment.) is a method of creating reality, a reality that suits me better than what’s presented to me, even if that reality is dark and pessimistic. If you call my writing snarky, perhaps you should refer back to Packer’s original piece and reevaluate your definition of snark.

What’s the purpose of a hashtag? Well, if someone searching Twitter wants to see what everyone else is tweeting about social media, that person can search for “#socialmedia” and watch a live stream of ongoing banter. Still not excited about hashtags? They can be used creatively too!
